Day 0 (Sat 2 Nov): Leaving London

Some things are better when they’re uneventful. Flights, for instance. And this one was particularly uneventful, which was great.

I explored the “information” section of the onboard entertainment system. Most of it wasn’t very informative, but the recipe section made up for it. Here’s the recipe for red curry with prawns:

It also gave a short, but useful description of the Thai greeting: the “Wai”. It’s a “gentle gesture of holding the hands together while lowering the head and slight bending of the knees.” It’s a wonderful humble, peaceful gesture (and much more hygenic than shaking hands!).

The safety video is also worth a mention.  It was really rather surreal, with the standard explanations staged in an exotic setting. The highlight (or lowlight?) was the smoking flamingo:

Weirdest thing you’ll see all day. Guaranteed.
